SARDINE RUN 2024: Weather and surf looking good for rest of the week, says KZN Sharks Board
The KZN Sharks Board has given a summary of the last few days of the #SardineRun2024.
All KZN Sharks Board safety gear from Port Edward through to Isipingo has been removed.
Bathing is banned along the South Coast at the moment.
Today (June 11) the KZN Sharks Board removed gear from Anstey’s and Brighton beaches. The bathing at these two beaches will also be banned.

Mthobisi Mbhense, acting communications officer of the KZN Sharks Board, issued a statement today (June 11) about the #SardineRun2024 so far:
On Friday, June 7, there were signs of sardines coming into KZN waters.
This was repeated on Saturday, June 8, but at first light on Sunday, June 9, the sardines were as far north as Hibberdene in the early morning.

Sardines could be spotted all along the Port Shepstone beachfront with an abundance of gamefish present.
Local anglers were catching kingfish, queen mackerel, shad, and various other fish preying upon the sardines. Spinner sharks were breaching and spinning in the air.

This kaleidoscope of activity has carried on throughout the day on Sunday, June 9, and once again on Monday, June 10.
The weather is looking good for the rest of the week, and the surf size drops off so netting should be relatively easy.
The best advice is to capitalize on the opportunity that the sardines are here and make the best of the viewing. Although the weather will remain good for the next few days, the opportunity of viewing the sardines may not be as good as the present moment.
On Sunday, June 9, there were seven nettings of sardines, and the first crates were sold at R700.
On Monday, June 10, there have been numerous nettings stretching from Ramsgate on the Lower South Coast through to Umgababa on the Upper South Coast. The starting price for the sardines was R500 per crate.
