One arrest in chips factory blaze
A case of arson was opened for investigation at Southport Saps.
Firefighters and emergency services worked hard to fight a raging fire at Viking Naks, a chips factory near Louisiana, on January 15..
At the time, police confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation was underway to find out the cause of the blaze.
On Monday last week, officers from the Saps K9 unit arrested a suspect in Louisiana.
“A case of arson was opened for investigation at Southport Saps after the factory was allegedly set alight. A suspect (29) was arrested, and he is due to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court,” said police.
According to Mohammed Saleji from Viking Naks, the business was closed that week. It is believed that the fire started at the rear of the building. “We are thankful that no one was injured and that the flames were contained by our fire department.”
The company also issued the following statement: “The Viking team extends their sincere gratitude to the brave souls of Port Shepstone who selflessly assisted during the incident. We are grateful to our neighbours for their quick response.”
“We are indebted to the firefighters whose brave hearts, strong hands and collaborative skills contained the fire with precision. The Almighty has blessed us to be surrounded by family and friends who stood by our side.”
“We acknowledge our loving community for their sacrifice throughout the night during the crisis.”
