The body of a truck driver was retrieved after a long and complicated rescue operation in Dududu.
IPSS Medical Rescue responded to reports of a truck that had plunged down a steep embankment in the area last Saturday.

On their arrival, paramedics found the truck almost 100m down, being held in place by two trees.
It was confirmed that the driver was dead.
“Due to the steep embankment, instability of the truck and thick bush, the Ugu Fire Department was unable to safely extricate his body,” explained Samantha Meyrick of IPSS Medical Media.
That afternoon, IPSS Search and Rescue and Saps Search and Rescue responded to the scene.
One person was sent down to the wreckage, confirming initial reports from the fire department.
“A decision was made to call off the recovery, returning on Sunday morning with a larger search and rescue team, as well as the necessary resources to secure the truck and cut away the dense bush.”
On Sunday, IPSS Search and Rescue, Saps Search and Rescue and Durban Metro Police Search and Rescue worked for hours to secure the wreckage and gain access to the driver’s body.

The body was recovered and handed over to Dududu Saps for further investigation.
This rescue operation showed great efforts by Ugu Disaster Management, RTI, Dududu Saps, Port Shepstone Saps Search and Rescue, Pietermaritzburg Saps Search and Rescue, Joey’s Towing, Torque Towing and the local community.
