Let’s go chase a waterfall this Valentine’s Day

The Mzimkhulu Honorary officers are hosting the Valentine's Walk, with registration starting at 07:30.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, why not step into the wild (Oribi Gorge) and hike to a waterfall?

Sounds romantic, right?

Wear a good pair of hiking shoes, wear something red and join a group of nature lovers on a hike to the Samango Falls in Oribi Gorge this Saturday (15th).

The Mzimkhulu Honorary officers are hosting the Valentine’s walk, with registration starting at 07:30. The walk starts at 08:00.

There will be coffee, tea, muffins, cookies and other sweet treats on sale.

Honorary Officer Daniel Opland said the hike to Samango Falls is not flat; however, don’t let this discourage you.

The start of the trail has a steep incline for 25m, and then the trail continues along an undulating path through the forest for 1km.

Then, there is a very steep incline where some stone steps assist for 500m.

“Don’t wear white shoes as there is mud in places,” added Opland.

“But, there are multiple places to stop along the way, and you are under the shade of the tree canopy the entire way. Once you reach the falls, the water is clean and an excellent place to wash and cool off,” he said.

Take a towel and bathing costume. Of course, don’t forget a hat, sunscreen and water.

The cost is R75 per person. No dogs.

To book, contact Maxine on 071 5176408.
