WET WEATHER | Watch out for damaged/collapsed roads in mid-South Coast areas

Motorists need to be cautious when out on the roads today.

After last night’s torrential downpour in KZN, several roads in the mid-South Coast area have been damaged, covered in mud or begun collapsing.

There was a mudslide by the R102 Scottburgh near TC Robertson Nature Reserve resulting in big rocks scattered across both lanes.

More potholes have been forming and filling up with water throughout these towns, as well as roads covered in mud.

Roads have been damaged and started to collapse such as on Minerva Avenue in Scottburgh South, and many other roads have been waterlogged.

Umdoni councillor Alan Cutten has also noticed that several residents have been affected with property damage due to inadequate stormwater drainage. These residents are requested to report the matter to Umdoni Customer Services via WhatsApp on 082 9046165 or email customerservices@umdoni.gov.za

Going north, the Umkomaas area has also been affected. Motorists are asked to be cautious on the roads as there is visible damage such as the road that collapsed on the corner of Maclean and Brad Street.

Areas in the lower South Coast have experienced serious flooding with teams from Ugu Disaster Management and Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) Fire and Rescue Services being sent out to conduct evacuations and provide assistance to affected communities.
