8 ways to be safe during loadshedding

Be extra alert during these blackouts.

Loadshedding has returned, and the need to be vigilant in the dark is even greater.

The soaring temperatures may force you to leave doors and windows open.

Saps cautions the public to be careful during these times and to:

1. Invest in at least two outside solar lights to illuminate your property at the back and in front of your home.

2. Install burglar bars on windows as a preventative measure.

3. Remove or trim large shrubs on your property and outside your driveway to increase visibility.

4. Ensure cellphones and power banks are charged to contact the police or your security provider, if necessary. Know your neighbours’ contact details.

5. Try to be home before loadshedding if possible.

6. Ensure gas stoves are closed and candles are extinguished before going to bed.

7. Keep a large torch on hand.

8. Be aware of loadshedding schedules and plan accordingly, as criminals are one step ahead of you and on the prowl for easy targets.
