Walk to Samango Falls a special treat
Oribi Gorge is such a special treat for anyone wanting to escape and immerse oneself in nature.
A small group of nature lovers hiked to the Samango Falls in Oribi Gorge last Sunday.
The Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers hosted the roughly 4km walk to the falls.
This is the first event of many exciting walks and talks in the pipeline.
The walk was relatively easy and beautiful under the canopy of the forest.
Undoubtedly, first prize was the waterfall cascading over the rocks – which was a spectacular sighting, especially after all the wonderful rain the coast has had in the last week.
Some of the hikers were brave enough to stand under the waterfall and experience the full force of its flow.
Along the footpath, birds, trees, cycads and mushrooms were spotted, which made the walk a delight.

Between historian and geologist Paddy Norman and honorary officer Daniel Opland, wonderful knowledge and expertise about the gorge was shared with the keen walkers.
Oribi Gorge is such a special treat for anyone wanting to escape and immerse oneself in nature.
There is a lovely selection of trails to choose from, such as the Nkonka trail, which runs adjacent to the Umzimkhuluwana River, the Mziki trail, which is a round trip of roughly 12km and the moderately challenging Hoopoe Trail.
The reserve boasts a plethora of pretty indigenous flora and has some 250 species of birds.
If you are lucky, you can spot the Samango monkey, a water monitor or other exciting wildlife.
