Ray Nkonyeni Municipality workers postpone peaceful march

The march was meant to highlight a vote of no confidence in the municipal manager, Khetha Zulu.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality workers were meant to hold a peaceful march this morning (Friday), starting from Chris Hani Square to the main municipal offices.

According to SAMWU regional secretary, Ntombifuthi Mzotho, the march was postponed due to logistics.

Mzotho said the march was meant to highlight a vote of no confidence in the municipal manager Khetha Zulu.

“We have no trust in him and we are afraid that if we continue like this, certain issues will not be fixed.”

Mzotho said one issue is the suspension of five workers who were alleged to be instigators of the protest.

Another issue is that some workers have received their two months backpay instalments, and some have not.

However, those who have received their backpay are questioning the tax deductions

According to Mzotho, the march will take place soon.
