NSRI and paramedics assist diver
If ever in difficulty and you require assistance from NSRI, contact them via the 112 emergency number.
The NSRI Rocky Bay duty crew and IPSS Ambulance and Advance Life Support Paramedics rendered medical assistance to a male diver (54) in the mid-South Coast area last Friday morning.
According to Linda Putter, NSRI Rocky Bay deputy station commander, a local dive charter boat requested assistance as a diver onboard required urgent medical treatment and that they were headed towards Rocky Bay.
“A doctor onboard, a fellow diver, had initiated medical treatment,” said Putter.
“The skipper of the vessel had raised the alarm while heading back to shore at best speed.”
NSRI and paramedics met the vessel on the shore, where it was found that the diver suffered injuries after he had made a rapid ascent while diving in heavy sea currents offshore.
“The patient, initially in a critical condition, received further medical treatment once safely ashore. He was then transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition by IPSS ambulance in the care of paramedics. He is reported to be recovering in the care of doctors and nurses.”
Should you find yourself in difficulty and require assistance from NSRI, contact them via the 112 emergency number.
