Daniela exhibits in aid of dementia and Alzheimers

All are welcome to attend.

Daniela Gwercher is hosting a solo art exhibition, ‘Simplicity’, in the IsiVivane Art Gallery at Mbango Valley Association in Port Shepstone from April 12 to 16.

This will be in aid of The Association for Dementia and Alzheimers in South Africa.

The exhibition is open to all art lovers on weekdays between 10:00 and 16:00.

The opening vernissage is on April 11, at 16:30 for 17:00, and for this pre-viewing, registration is required on 060 6983312.

After a career in advertising, Daniela quit the corporate world and came from Austria to South Africa to order a catamaran sailboat in Saldanha – this was in 1995, and this was when she first fell in love with the country.

She then travelled all over the world in her sailboat, finding enjoyment in the different cultures and people she interacted with.

This triggered her interest in painting, and in 2011, she came back to South Africa and settled on her farm in Umzumbe, devoted to focus on her art.

After she studied art history online in London, she changed her style from realistic to semi-abstract, based on impressions and feelings, with a strong colour focus.

This solo exhibition, ‘Simplicity’, features large and bold oil paintings in semi-abstract style, influenced by Wabi Sabi nature settings.

During return visits to her birth country, Austria, Daniela devoted time to starting up the Austrian Old Age Art Project to teach painting skills to the aged – some as old as 95 years!

At their first exhibition, 59 paintings were exhibited, and 53 were sold.

The success of this charitable endeavour prompted Daniela to devote this solo exhibition to further research into dementia and Alzheimers.
