Autumn classes for matrics start

Ngcobo encouraged learners to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to elevate their lives through education.

The KZN Department of Education, under the Umlazi District, was visited last Friday at the UKZN Westville campus by the head of department, Nkosinathi Ngcobo, to monitor and support the ‘Autumn Classes’.

These classes, hosted in partnership with UKZN, are designed to assist with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects. The aim is to fill knowledge gaps and provide extra tuition for a better understanding of these complex subjects.

One of the more local schools benefitting from these classes is Umkomaas Secondary.

The district director for Umlazi District, Busi Mahlambi, in her introduction of Ngcobo, expressed appreciation for the support offered by him as well as the director in the office of the HOD, Neli Mhlongo, Umlazi District subject advisors, UKZN coordinators and teachers.

“I appreciate you, champions, for your commitment to excelling in your studies. We believe that you will make us and yourselves proud,” said Mahlambi.

She also urged the new matric learners to keep the KZN flag flying high and to honour their promise of excellence.

Ngcobo encouraged learners to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to elevate their lives through education.

“Some people are resting, but you are here doing the work, and that means you know that nothing precious comes easy,” he said

The learners are committed to achieving top marks in their 2025 NSC examinations.
