Transport minister exempts toll fees at Marburg ramps

According to Sanral, it would use the period from April 17 to May 7 to find facilities where motorists can collect e-tags, at a cost of R50 each, to use at the toll.

Toll fees at the Oribi Toll Plaza will be suspended for motorists using the Marburg on and offramps from May 7 to November 30.

The KZN Transport MEC, Siboniso Duma, announced this at the old Port Shepstone Bus Rank earlier today (April 17).

Duma said this came after Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, agreed to waive toll fees during the rehabilitation of the Mzimkhulu River Bridge on the R102 in Port Shepstone.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) said it would use the time from April 17 to May 7 to find facilities, where motorists can collect e-tags to use at the toll.

Sanral said motorists could be asked to collect the tags at malls, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, taxi and bus ranks, and the toll plaza.

“Each car must register for an e-tag. You do not buy the tag, but for it to work it must have credit. When registering the e-tag, R50 is required. The tag will only allow you to go through if you are using the exempted lane. This is only for Ugu residents,” said Sanral.

Meanwhile, MEC Duma said residents will be informed in due course where to collect the tags.

“We welcome the minister’s response to exempt toll fees,” said Duma.
