Join Ivungu’s monthly meander

New, happy signs are up in the Ivungu Reserve to help, guide and welcome everyone who visit, picnic and walk the trail.

Custodians of the Ivungu River Conservancy have erected some fabulous, informative boards around the picnic site and trail.

Visitors to the area can now read a bit about the birds, trees, and insects and then listen and look.

The ‘Snapscans’ on the signs have also made it easy to donate to the conservancy.

All monies go to keeping the green areas – green, clean, healthy, alien-free and indigenous.

The fabulous group at last month’s walk.

If you are interested in taking a stroll and exploring the reserve, join the wonderful group for the ‘Walk and Rewind’ on Wednesday, April 23.

Find the picnic site and trail, just off Edward Avenue in Uvongo, which is clearly signposted, next to the tennis courts and bowling green.

Last month, it was delightful to welcome new faces and a fantastic evening was enjoyed by all.

The conservancy’s chairperson, Bill Davis, said it’s always refreshing to have people who have never walked their trail before – join in.

“They were so excited (pooches too) by it all – and the rain held off until just before 19:00. We certainly do reside in a little patch of paradise – so worth protecting,” he said.

Thanks to some of the conservancy members who were there to guide and chat – Daniél Louise Ludick, Jogi Strydom, Ruth Clarke, Sarah Unsworth and Dave Lucey.

If you didn’t get there, make sure to diarise next month’s meander.

Delightful signs have been erected by the conservancy.

See you there at 16:00. Sundowners under the trees at 17:00. Be sure to bring your own.

April is alien invader plant awareness month, serving as a reminder to send these nasties packing if you find them in your garden. You can also support the conservancy’s efforts to eradicate them from the reserve.

Bill and Judi Davis (pictured) uncovered this bench along the Ivungu River trail which was almost completely covered with sand in the last floods. Do look out for it on your next walk.
