The Top Hat Society is an emerging community of readers and writers on the South Coast.

With creative writing lessons as the starting point, groups of all ages can join together in creating new and exciting worlds.

UK traditionally published author Meg Price is the founder and tutor. Her debut novel will be in bookshops in October 2026.

The basis of the teachings are from basics to advanced techniques on how to write a fiction novel, with short stories and non-fiction as options too.

Meg offers a relaxed setting – nothing like the writing you did at school, with a central meeting location in Margate.

Her goal is to build a community of readers and writers here on the South Coast.

“Writing is such a fun thing, but it can also be lonely at times. With the Top Hat Society, it becomes the opposite. You don’t need to be gifted or have fancy laptops and tablets. All you need is a desire to write, and a pen and paper,” she said.

Spend an hour listening to instrumental music and learning one of the oldest art forms.
“You’ll make new friends, laugh and, most importantly, enjoy writing and teaching tailored to your individual genre and skill level. You can become a part of a new and growing community of readers and writers.”

Finish the book you’ve thought about for years, start something you’ve never thought of before, give yourself an hour to do the thing you’ve loved for ages.
