Road is dangerous, says Margate resident

Damaged road is both an eyesore and a danger.

Nothing has been done to repair a section of paved strip that has caved in along Margate’s Marine Drive.

Resident Madelein Stopforth is deeply concerned about the danger it poses to motorists and pedestrians.

The section in question can be found between Smokey Joes and Maroela flats.

“While the gaping hole can’t be missed during the day, it is a totally different situation at night,” she said.

No warning for motorists for the sinkhole along Marine Drive, Margate.

She said she reported the issue to Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) on May 14 and nothing has been done, yet.

“There are no warning signs, nothing. Must someone be seriously injured before action is taken? It’s totally unacceptable that the road looks like this.”

RNM spokesperson, Nomusa Zulu, said the municipality’s roads and stormwater section is aware of the issue and said it forms part of repairs programme.

“We anticipate repairs will take place before June 13 this year,” she said.
