Ugu updates customer app

The intention of this digital transformation is to reduce the number of phone calls and walk-ins to the municipal offices.

Ratepayers will now find it easier to submit their meter reading, check their balance and make a payment on an updated version of the Ugu District Citizen App.

Ugu IT manager, Norma Grobler, said the app has been in existence for some time and has been in use by the customers, but it had a few technological shortcomings.

She said they felt in this modern day people wanted more.

“We launched the app a few weeks ago and we have noticed a massive upward trend in downloads.”

She explained that the intention of this digital transformation is to reduce the number of phone calls and walk- ins to the municipal offices.

“Those customers who call or come into the offices will have more complex queries which will allow the enquiry clerks and customer care agents time to deal with them, rather than getting a lot of phone calls for simple enquiries.”

If a customer does not want to download the app, a portal has been launched on the Ugu website – all you have to do is register and log in.

Grobler concluded that they are looking at adding more features in future such as WhatsApp integration and a chat box.
