Palmview youth mark Youth Day with community clean up
Clean up events provide valuable opportunities for children to connect with their communities.
A large group of youth from Ward 12 in Palmview, supported by the DA, recently participated in a street clean up. Youth together with councillors demonstrated their commitment to community betterment and environmental responsibility.
The clean up was held to celebrate Youth Day on Monday this week, and volunteers collected litter, removed debris, and generally improved the cleanliness of the area.
Some 48 refuse bags of rubbish was collected.
Ward 12 councillor Leon Garbade said the theme was recycling and illegal dumping.
“Engaging the youth in neighbourhood clean up activities helps instil a sense of responsibility for their surroundings from an early age. Such activities highlight the importance of active citizenry and the role young people can play in shaping their communities. It was a brilliant day and we thank everyone for their sponsorship and support. A big thank you to all the youth for taking time out and cleaning the streets of Palmview.”
After the clean up, the youth were treated to lunch and a goodie bag.
