Call to volunteers to clear farm trails of deadly snares in Umtentweni
Everyone is invited to join the snare hunt.
Volunteers from the South Coast Anti-Snaring Group will gather in Umtentweni this Saturday (5th) to clear bushes and trails of hidden snares threatening local wildlife.
The group, which regularly organises anti-snaring sweeps, will meet at 10:00 for 10:15 on the farm before moving through the surrounding terrain. Everyone is invited.
“We cover these areas on foot, looking for wire snares and other illegal setups that injure or kill animals,” said Craig Saunders, founder of the group.
“Every snare we find and remove makes a difference.”
Volunteers are urged to wear long pants and sturdy shoes, and bring backpacks, refreshments, bush knives or pliers, and to expect an intermediate-level trail with some thorny patches.
