Shark incident: Police recover body of fisherman missing off Hibberdene

The incident took place at Mfazazana near Hibberdene last Friday.

The body of the fisherman who went missing in the ocean off Mfazazana near Hibberdene, after what has been described as a shark incident, has been found.

Craig Lambinon, spokesperson for National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), said the body, recovered by the police divers, appears to show signs of obvious shark wounds. These are being investigated.

The police K9 search and rescue unit, together with water policing and diving services (WPDS) located and recovered the body of the man late yesterday.

It is believed to that of the 37-year-old local fisherman who went missing last Friday in the apparent shark incident.

A formal identification of the man is being conducted with police and government health forensic pathology services.

Police have opened an inquest docket.
