New fire truck for Margate Airport

As a Category 5 facility, it now meets the highest standards of safety.

Margate Airport now has its own dedicated fire truck, which was handed over by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) mayor Zodwa Mzindle recently.

This means that the airport has now been upgraded to Category 5, which meets the highest standards of safety.

In July 2023, the airport’s fire truck broke down and the facility was temporarily downgraded from Category 4 to Category 2.

The breakdown of the fire truck meant that the airport could not provide the required aerodrome rescue and fire fighting services as required by civil aviation regulations.

RNM’S acting spokesperson Nomusa Zulu said: “The airport now has capacity to accommodate more aircrafts and airlines.”

Zulu added that the upgrade is also expected to boost economic growth in the municipality.
