Celebrate Mandela Day with a walk, birds and breakfast
Celebrate nature, community and giving back this Mandela Day. All are welcome!
Mark Mandela Day in a special way with a peaceful 67 minute early morning walk through Bendigo Reserve, guided by conservation ecologist Dr David Ehlers Smith.
The walk takes place this Sunday (20th), starting at 07:00, and offers a rare chance to explore the reserve as the birds wake up.
Smith from BirdLife South Africa is an avid birder, expert bird mimic and a member of the Mpenjati Nature Reserve Honorary Officers’ team.
Originally from Borneo, where he completed his PhD, Smith moved to KZN in 2013 and is well-known for sharing his vast knowledge in an engaging way.
After the walk, the group will head to Leka’s for breakfast buns with coffee and tea at just R50. Non-walkers are welcome to join for breakfast and a further 67-minute talk by Ehlers Smith at the restaurant.
Adding to the day’s spirit, Bendigo Conservation Group will be selling delightful knitted creatures and wonderful worry worms to raise funds.
