Cancer survivors head to national summit
Christien van Zyl and Linda Brand will travel to Cape Town to attend the Reach for Recovery summit.
Two passionate breast cancer survivors, Christien van Zyl and Linda Brand, will represent Ugu at the upcoming Reach for Recovery summit in Cape Town later this month.
The national gathering will host about 60 delegates from across the country, all of whom are volunteers with Reach for Recovery – a support organisation made up entirely of breast cancer survivors.
The summit will provide attendees with crucial leadership training, advanced peer-support skills, and strategic tools to help strengthen the emotional and practical care they provide to breast cancer patients in their communities.
Christien and Linda have walked the cancer journey themselves and now dedicate their time to helping others do the same.
They provide invaluable emotional support and guidance to newly diagnosed women, drawing from their personal experiences to offer empathy, strength, and hope.
Reach for Recovery also supplies breast prostheses to women who are unable to afford them, helping restore dignity and confidence during recovery.
“We are honoured to attend this summit and look forward to bringing back fresh knowledge to uplift and support more patients in the district,” said Linda.
They expressed sincere gratitude to their generous sponsors for making the trip possible. “We are truly thankful – your support means the world to us and those we serve,” they said.
Reach for Recovery is also available to give talks to local groups or offer one-on-one support.
