Making every minute count in Umdoni

The local municipality and partners participated in various community activities for Mandela Day.

In honour of Mandela Day, Umdoni Municipality in partnership with Ugu District Municipality and the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs joined forces for several community based activities.

Joining the united team was Umdoni mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli, MEC for Social Development Mbali Shinga and the Ugu District Municipality speaker Sizwe Ngcobo.

The day kicked off with a clean up campaign in Umzinto. The initiative was supported by local businesses and residents.

Thereafter, the team made its way to the Umzinto Correctional Services, where leadership engaged with inmates about second chances, forgiveness and rehabilitation.

The activities went beyond the typical 67 minutes and more activities followed.

They also visited Siyaqhubeka Crèche in Braemar. Essentials were donated and the crèche was painted to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for the children.

The Department of Agriculture contributed by donating garden implements and assisted in planting a vegetable garden at the crèche as a step towards sustainable food security for the youngsters.

Before leaving, the team engaged with the children and ensured they had some fun as well.
