WATCH: Mzimkhulu River bridge repairs at a standstill – what is the delay?

Authorities had promised that work will resume on Monday (yesterday).

Is the Mzimkhulu River Bridge back on track?

This was the front page headline of last week’s edition of the South Coast Herald.

The answer: NO!

Authorities had promised that repair work will resume on Monday, August 11, but there is no-one on site.

This comes after chief director of the KZN Department of Transport (DoT), Muziwakhe Sithole, said at a stakeholders’ meeting at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality last Tuesday that repairs will start on Monday.

In that meeting he explained the 2024/25 cashflow was almost exhausted, however, an injection of R200m will help projects move forward.

As of today (Tuesday), August 12 there are no contractors on site.

Despite numerous requests for comment from the DoT’s, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, the spokesperson for the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, none has been received so far.
