Reynolds Street rehab in Port Shepstone on track

Concerns were raised after rehabilitation works stopped on Reynolds Street in Port Shepstone last week Thursday.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality issued a statement clarifying that certain delays have occurred, however, the project is actively progressing and remains on track for completion as anticipated.
Delays have arisen as a result of unforeseen circumstances beyond the control of the contractor, Design Agents, and the municipality.
Municipal spokesperson Simon April said that relocation of fibre lines and undocumented water mains, some over 50 years old, which were not reflected in existing records led to repeated breakages and water leaks.
“Delays in wayleave approvals for fibre infrastructure and other essential services, including the bulk water main have slowed progress. Shallow electrical cable rerouting and reconnection have now been successfully completed, restoring essential power infrastructure and enabling further work in adjacent areas. This paves the way for the contractor to commence with layer works immediately.”
“We assure all stakeholders, road users and the public that the project has not been suspended,” said April.
