Closure of section of P464 (Sugarmill Road) in Port Shepstone for repairs

Work will start on the affected section from the Umzimkhulu Low Level Bridge to Sugar Mill Road (next to the old Illovo mill) on Wednesday, August 27.

A section of the P464 in Port Shepstone will be closed to allow for remedial work in the slip area, from Wednesday, August 27.

In a statement, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesperson Simon April said the closure has been announced on behalf of the KZN Department of Transport.

April said the affected section is from the Umzimkhulu Low Level Bridge to Sugar Mill Road (next to the old Illovo mill).

He said they anticipate the work to be completed in two months.

“Please note, the affected portion of the road will be completely closed for the first three weeks. Thereafter, the road will reopen to single-lane traffic under stop-and-go control,” he said.

April added: “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appeal for patience and cooperation as this important work is carried out to ensure safer road infrastructure.”
