#CelebratingWomen: Detective Captain Mayandree Chetty – Group Commander at Umkomaas Saps
An avid sportswoman, she has a black belt in karate and also excels in netball.
Mayandree Chetty has 32 years experience in policing, especially in crime investigation.
This highly decorated officer has attended numerous courses and earned many medals from Saps.
She believes that women are at the cusp of policing, and presently serves as a Group Commander at Umkomaas Detective Services and acts as the Detective Commander on an ad hoc basis.
She has been described by her Umkomaas colleagues as fabulous and super fit, and exudes an aura of positivity.
“This field training officer harnesses inner strength and is a no-nonsense gem who takes her work seriously and ensures perpetrators are arrested timeously,” said Captain Ranjith Rampersad, Umkomaas Saps spokesperson.
Also, she encourages her subordinates to solve crimes and at the same time inspires them.
This Women’s Month, she also emphasises the importance of ‘saying no to gender based violence’.
Also a mum, Captain Maya is an avid sportswoman. She has a black belt in karate and also excels in netball.
It must be placed on record that she contributed greatly to the grand finale of the winning station of the province for 2025.
“Her excellent services are held in high regard,” added Rampersad.
