Marine Drive repairs at a standstill

Marine Drive has become a danger zone after the contractor left last month because of non-payment from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport (DoT).
According to Clr Alan Bosch an accident occurred in Uvongo recently, leaving a biker badly injured.
Motorists now fear to drive on Marine Drive, especially at night because of the dips at bridges, uneven lanes and a large dug up section near Kingfisher Garage in Margate.
Bosch added he is concerned because the holiday season is approaching and it will affect Margate, which is a popular tourist destination.
“I wrote to the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, raising these concerns about three weeks ago and I am yet to receive a response. This road is dangerous and it is getting worse. The dips before the bridges are horrible and if you are not a local and you are not familiar with the area you are likely to find yourself in the river.”
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesperson Simon April said DoT has been contacted a number of times, but the municipality has not received any feedback.
The contractor, Raubex, was contacted for comment, but none was received at the time of going to press.
Over several weeks, DoT was also contacted for comment, to no avail.
