New Ugu fleet to fast-track service delivery
41 vehicles plus three TLBs were handed over to the rightful drivers.
Ugu District Municipality workers have been warned by the mayor, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, not to drive municipal vehicles while wearing their political regalia.
Mqadi said this at a vehicle handover to workers at the Ugu Disaster Centre.
He added that they should dress accordingly because these vehicles belong to the community, not to their political parties.
Forty one vehicles plus three TLBs were handed over to the rightful drivers.
“We are expecting some trucks, three water tankers, three sanitation trucks and a fire engine to arrive at the end of September. We want to speed up service delivery to our people, we also want to make it easy for our plumbers to be able to attend to complaints quickly, especially in the rural areas.”
He said the 4x4s will be used for challenging terrains, so that people can receive services.
“Soon we will be opening water projects in rural areas, so by time we are ready, our workers should be able to get to these areas.”
Municipal manager Vela Mzibuko said that the vehicles are leased to own and it will cost R2m a month.
Mazibuko added this arrangement will not place a heavy burden on the municipality’s cashflow, which is not stable as yet.
