Ugu District Municipality recently celebrated one of its longest-serving employees, Goodman Cele.
Cele has been working as a messenger for the municipality’s corporate services department for 32 years
A heartfelt ceremony was held at the municipality’s boardroom, where the corporate service unit congratulated Cele.
The ceremony was attended by colleagues who highlighted the invaluable contributions he has made to the municipality over the decades.
Ugu municipal manager Vela Mazibuko expressed gratitude for Cele’s unwavering commitment and professionalism.
“Today, we honour not just a remarkable employee, but a true pillar of our community. Cele has consistently gone above and beyond to serve the municipality,” said Mazibuko.
Originally from Izingolweni, Cele said he joined the municipality during difficult times when there was still segregation between employees and employers.
He explained that his love for his family, two children, and wife pushed him to remain resilient and dedicated to his work.
Cele urged employees to respect their jobs and remember that they are employed to serve communities and feed their families.
“All I can say is they must respect their colleagues and keep their relationships professional at all times. They must also be dedicated to their jobs if they want to remain in employment for many years,” he added.
As a token of appreciation, Cele was presented with a commemorative gift, symbolising the gratitude of the municipality for his years of service.
