Floral fundraiser celebrates life’s fresh starts

The mid-South Coast community recently gathered for a floral art demonstration and high tea event themed ‘new beginnings’.
The event, hosted by Umdoni Christian Academy as a matric farewell fundraiser, invited attendees to reflect on the beauty of life’s fresh starts and new opportunities, all through the exquisite art of florals.
The centrepiece of the event was a captivating floral demonstration led by Heila Groenewald, a seasoned floral artist renowned for her creativity and passion for flowers.
Throughout the event, Heila dazzled attendees with a variety of arrangements, creating five to six stands of visual splendour. As she meticulously arranged each piece, she explained her artistic choices and the symbolism behind the flowers, weaving in the theme of new beginnings.
Heila’s narrative was further enhanced by a carefully curated selection of soothing music, creating a reflective ambience for the audience.
Her words echoed the sentiment of the changing seasons, paralleling nature’s cycle of renewal with the potential for personal growth and new opportunities in life.

As guests admired Heila’s creations, they were encouraged to embrace their unique identities and accept themselves wholeheartedly.
Adding a unique twist to the morning festivities, a prize-giving ceremony recognised the best laid tables at the high tea, of which Heila and her daughter Burnie, had the honour of judging the tables.
After the judging, guests enjoyed tea and refreshments, allowing for mingling and savouring delicious treats.
The excitement continued with a live auction, where Paulina Britz made the highest bid of R600 for a floral arrangement. A raffle draw concluded the event, with prizes generously donated by local businesses.
