Tidy Towns gives back to Pennington Stars

Tidy Towns Pennington has been involved in numerous projects since its establishment, but a more recent one has brought about so much joy and meaning to the group.

The local lads who work in and around Pennington are often found playing soccer on the Village Green on most evenings. They have been described by the town as highly organised, a committed team of players who take part in a soccer league. They are the Pennington Stars.

Tidy Towns chose to give back to these locals and recently surprised them with full soccer kits.

This included blue practice shirts, blue shorts, red match shirts, red shorts, socks, goalie shirt and shorts, goalie kit bag, two soccer balls and two soccer nets for the posts.

Cherry Lane also sponsored practice bibs for the players.

“It makes us happy to know that we can show support to those who care for our homes and gardens,” said Tidy Towns chairperson, Viv Sandwith.

“Many are caretakers of holiday homes, and they are fully entrusted with the responsibility of looking after these properties. We know they are the eyes and ears on the ground, regarding security in Pennington.”

At the kit handover, the Tidy Towns team was able to chat to the guys and treated them to a post-practice meal and drinks to celebrate their new soccer kits.

Thanks is extended to Martin Hanlon (Tidy Towns Pennington’s official soccer lover), for coordinating the ordering of the kit.

The team is also still trying to obtain topsoil to level out the field.

“Our goal is always to give back to those who help us,” added Viv.

“It brought us so much joy, not only to kit out the soccer players, but also to recognise the team for the role they play in Pennington. They really are the Pennington Stars!”
