WATCH: Mid-November target for single-lane opening on Mzimkhulu River bridge

According to the KZN MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, the lane will open while rehabilitation is still under way.

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma, said construction on the Mzimkhulu River bridge is going pretty well.

“We are still working on ensuring that we re-open a single-lane while the rehabilitation is continuing. We are targeting the middle of November, ” said Duma.

Piling has commenced on the Mzimkhulu River bridge.

Piling has commenced and it is believed it has reached rock level. In the next week or two it will be complete.

A piling rig installs piles into the ground to create a strong foundation for structure.

Emergency repairs began in March after the bridge was deemed structurally unsafe, causing a six-month closure and re-routing of traffic to the P464 (Sugarmill Road) and N2.
