Rotarian visits club in Mauritius

Neil McDonald and his wife Pam joined 15 000 other Rotarians at a Speakers Evening Meeting.

Neil McDonald, the now retired CEO of Khanya Hospice (based in Umkomaas), has made his international Rotary mark.

Neil and his wife Pam are members of the Rotary Club of Amanzimtoti. The couple has been spending time with family in Mauritius, and recently joined 15 000 other Rotarians at a Speakers Evening Meeting at The Rotary Club in Grande Baie, Mauritius.

This club was founded in 1981. After the granting of its charter on December 7 of the same year, the club joined Rotary International within District 9220, which includes several countries in the Indian Ocean: Mauritius (Mauritius Island, Rodrigues), France (Réunion, Mayotte), Seychelles, Madagascar, Comoros and Djibouti.

At the meeting, Neil said the speaker gave feedback on the National Conference that was held in Calgary, Canada in July, and that it was a great and enjoyable evening overall.

“This is a place where you meet people and create new friendships…worldwide,” he said.

“We met Rotarians from Belgium and India who were also visiting the club.”

A Rotarian for several years, Neil is also a recipient of the Paul Harris Award. This is the highest award in Rotary. He received this for his dedication, leadership and commitment in helping others and the community in Amanzimtoti and surrounds.
