MZIMKHULU RIVER BRIDGE UPDATE: Concrete pour begins as toll rebate nears its end
The announcement of a formal meeting this Sunday, November 30, has raised hopes that clarity will finally be given on the project’s progress, particularly, if one lane will be open to traffic on Tuesday, December 2, when the toll rebate ends.

Preparations are under way for the next major milestone at the Mzimkhulu River bridge – the casting of the new concrete foundation on top of the vertical piling.
News from the ground is that a massive 718 cubic metres of concrete will be poured continuously over two to three days, with the operation scheduled to start late tomorrow.
This comes as the 100% frequent user rebate at the Oribi Toll Plaza is set to end on Tuesday, December 2 at 23:59, Sanral confirmed yesterday (Wednesday).

The rebate was introduced in May to assist local commuters diverted onto the N2, after the temporary closure of the Mzimkhulu River bridge for urgent repairs. In September, a three-month extension was granted to align with the construction schedule. With significant progress now reported, motorists will revert to the standard frequent user discount from next Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the KZN Department of Transport (DoT) has called a Stakeholders Engagement Meeting to discuss the emergency repair and rehabilitation of the bridge.
The meeting will take place at the Ray Nkonyeni Council Chambers on Sunday, November 30 at 15:00.
