Diamond wedding celebration for Trafalgar couple
They haven't sat still for too many of those years.
It has been sixty years of love, devotion and high-speed thrills for Koos and Joan Roux of Trafalgar.
The couple celebrates their diamond 60th wedding anniversary today (August 20), an incredible journey spanning six decades with more to come.
They have two sons, Casper born in 1969, and John, born in 1973, two grandchildren, Jaime-li (born 1994) and Keagan (born 2000), as well as a great-granddaughter Nelly, born last year.
Koos and Joan have always been a dynamic duo, whether in business or adventure.
In the early 1960s, they tore up the go-kart tracks in the Port Shepstone CBD, earning their racing licences together.
That same determination took them to Paddock in 1970, where they opened their own workshop and petrol station.
In 1978, they moved to Harding and stayed there nearly 20 years, before selling up in 1995 and relocating home and business to Trafalgar.
They have a shared love of the ocean and were founding members of the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club, located right next door to the homes of Sonny Evans and Koos’s parents.
In the late 1990s, they took their adventures to the skies, both earning pilot licences in order to fly microlights together.
They still live in Trafalgar and enjoy a slightly slower pace to life, although Joan keeps busy running the tuck shop at a retirement village in Port Edward.
