Support gender-based violence survivors, says Port Shepstone Court

According to state prosecutor, Sohana Moodley, too many cases are being withdrawn by victims.

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children is a worldwide initiative, and the Port Shepstone Court did its part to create awareness at the start of the campaign on Tuesday this week.

State prosecutor Sohana Moodley said gender-based violence (GBV) is the most prevalent offence facing society currently. “We need communities to help victims to not only report GBV, but also to create support structures for victims who often withdraw cases because of financial dependency on the offender. Too many cases are being withdrawn by victims.”

Key dates to observe in this period:
November 29 – International Women Human Rights Defenders Day; December 1 – World Aids Day; December 3 – International Day for the Disabled and December 10 – International Human Rights Day.
