Swimmer raises over R7000 for NSRI Shelly Beach

The community offered support and some waited at the finish in Margate.

Christo van Rooyen (29) swam 7.9km from Shelly Beach to Margate to raise funds for NSRI Shelly Beach recently.
He took to the ocean at 08:00 and reached Margate about three hours later.

Christo said that he had been planning to do the swim for the past two years, but could not because he had to make sure he was ready and fit.

“The sea conditions were not too bad, it was a good swim and I paced it.”
He thanked all the sponsors that helped him raise funds. Some R7 100 was raised on the day.
