Youngsters embark on clean up at Karridene Beach, near Umgababa

Twenty five bags of litter were collected.

Over 200 participants were part of a successful beach clean up campaign at Karridene Beach (near Umgababa) last Friday.

This was carried out by Clean Surf Project – an organisation that strives to create awareness of the devastating effects of littering, especially plastic and polystyrene products, and the impact it has on ocean life and humans as well.

FSY (For the Strength of Youth), a youth programme of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, participated in this campaign and included members, aged 14 to 31.

The campaign allowed participants to focus on uplifting and empowering the youth of KZN.

Twenty five bags of litter were collected and one plastic tray removed. There were also metres and metres of plastic cable piping dug out of the sand. This was a tough task for participants, but teamwork produced positive results.

Two months ago, a part of this beach was cleaned by Umkomaas Primary School’s Enviro Club, which also collected 25 bags.
