Ramsgate Ramble: A world-class walk on your doorstep
It’s an easy walk to turn into a memorable morning out.
The South Coast has plenty to be proud of – and the Ramsgate Ramble stands out as one of its true gems.
This spectacular 7km seashore trail stretches between Ramsgate and Southbroom and is lovingly maintained by volunteers from the Ramsgate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, a community-funded initiative. From the moment you step onto the path, it’s easy to see why the ramble is regarded as world-class.

The views are nothing short of breath-taking. Rolling waves crash against rocky outcrops, seabirds glide overhead, and along the way insects, reptiles and small coastal creatures quietly go about their business.

Combined with the rich variety of indigenous flora and fauna, the ramble becomes a living showcase of the South Coast’s natural beauty.

It’s an easy walk to turn into a memorable morning out. Dogs on leads are welcome. Pack a small haversack with walking shoes, a costume, water, sunscreen and a hat – and don’t forget a picnic.

For those who prefer to travel light, several restaurants along the route offer refreshments, snacks, waffles or a relaxed lunch with a view.

The path and walkways wind along rocky stretches of seashore. Well-placed benches almost insist that walkers stop, sit back and simply take in the scenery.

If the tide is right, a refreshing dip in one of the clear rock pools or swimming bays – like the Ski Boat Bay and Little Billy Bay – is hard to resist. A few small streams to cross add an extra sense of adventure and keep the walk engaging.
Adding to the charm of the ramble, striking driftwood sculptures have recently been discovered along the route.

Since the Herald’s article last week, further sculptures with lots of character have appeared along this stretch of coastline. With the artist remaining unknown, it leaves one wondering whether Ramsgate has its very own Banksy.

For locals who may have fallen a little out of love with the South Coast, the Ramsgate Ramble is a powerful reminder of just how special this area is. And for visitors, this stretch of coastline never fails to impress – leaving residents proud to call the South Coast home.

Sometimes, the best experiences really are right on your doorstep. The Ramsgate Ramble is one of them.
