Step up as a volunteer at NSRI Shelly Beach
Station 20 Shelly Beach is specifically looking for volunteers who are 18 years or older, live about 15 minutes off the rescue base, and have their own transport.
Have you ever thought about what happens when someone is in trouble at sea – or when a call for help comes in during a stormy night?
Along the coastline, it is ordinary community members who answer that call.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is a volunteer-driven organisation, made up of people from all walks of life who give their time, skills and energy to save lives on the water and along the shores.
At NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach, that spirit of service is alive and growing – and the station is calling on the community to step forward and get involved.

Volunteering with the NSRI is not only about heading out to sea. While sea-going crew are vital, the station also relies heavily on shore crew who play a critical role behind the scenes. From radio operations and logistics to launching support and on-land coordination, every volunteer forms part of a well-trained team working together when lives are on the line.
Becoming an NSRI volunteer does not require prior experience. What it does require is commitment, reliability and a genuine desire to help others. Volunteers must be willing to attend training, duty shifts, meetings and call-outs, and work as part of a disciplined team. Fitness requirements vary depending on the role, and all training is provided by the NSRI.

Station 20 Shelly Beach is specifically looking for volunteers who are 18 years or older, live about 15 minutes off the rescue base, and have their own transport. A passion for people, the ocean and community service is essential.
The NSRI is a volunteer organisation – no remuneration is paid – but what volunteers gain is immeasurable. From camaraderie and life-saving skills to the knowledge that you played a part in bringing someone home safely, the rewards run deep.
If you have ever wanted to make a real difference, this is your opportunity.
NSRI Station 20 Shelly Beach invites interested community members to get in touch, attend a meeting, or message the station to find out more about joining the volunteer team.
