Many hands make beach clean-up possible in Shelly Beach

Conservation efforts continue along the South Coast.

Some 35 volunteers rolled up their sleeves for a beach clean-up recently, with Creston College learners once again leading the charge.

The Bendigo Conservancy Group, together with the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone, coordinated the event, highlighting the ongoing conservation efforts in the area.

The group combed the beach picking up litter.

Twenty-four of the school’s learners were among those picking up litter along the shoreline near Shelly Beach, demonstrating impressive commitment to keeping the coast clean.

Also, the Bendigo Conservancy Group’s invasive alien plant removal saw only three soldiers arrive from Creston College, but the small group managed to clear a good section.

Removing alien invasive weeds are (back, from left) Dee Dickens, Nikki Cruden and Mbeke Ngcobo from the Bendigo Conservancy Group, with Yukeer Singh, Aidan Di-Sante and Arnaav Luckraj from Creston College in front.

Event organiser, Dee Dickens said it was hot, tough and hard labour to dig out well-rooted roots. She also thanked everyone for showing up for the environment.
