No municipal services for Umdoni… yet again

There has been no transparency regarding why there is once again labour unrest.

Umdoni Municipality has yet again started off another year with more labour unrest.

This comes after workers downed tools last Wednesday, resulting in all municipal services being halted.

There has been no transparency regarding why there is once again labour unrest, and communities have not been given an idea of when services will resume.

On Monday this week, DA councillor Dana Daniels notified locals that the DA caucus and Clr Roy Bhoola met with the acting municipal manager to address the ongoing work stoppage.

The caucus submitted an urgent meeting be constituted to find an implementation plan with regards to services. They placed emphasis on what contingency plan has been activated; under what legal framework will emergency procurement be done; what are the public health risk mitigation steps; and what timeline is projected for restoration of services.

At the time of going to press, municipal services were still halted.

Umdoni Municipality has been contacted for comment on the matter and to provide insight as to what led to this recent labour unrest.
