Mzimkhulu River bridge closed again – for now

There's more frustration for South Coast motorists who have had the short end of the straw of late.

The Mzimkhulu River bridge currently under construction has been closed again.

Motorists are advised to make use of the designated detour routes (P464 and the freeway).

Further updates will be communicated as information is received.

In a statement released earlier, Selvan Chetty, Deputy Chairperson of the Ugu District CPF board, said the information he has received is that the bridge has been closed by the contractor because of non-payment.

“Sbu Mseleku, the liaising officer, has indicated that the MEC has been informed of the development by the RNM mayor Zodwa Mzindle and she has taken up the matter. The contractor will only open it up once he receives payment, which is apparently expected by next week.”
