WATCH: Alarm over washaway in Marine Drive in Oslo Beach
The cause is believed to be from water gushing down King Haakon Drive due to heavy rainfall.
A massive washaway on Marine Drive, Oslo Beach is posing a danger to road users.
It was brought to the attention of the local Department of Transport (DoT) by Ward 18 councillor Doug Rawlins.
“This washaway is expanding and has become a danger to motorists and pedestrians. I brought this to the attention of the DoT in December 2025, and to date nothing has been done to fix this section of road. I was told then that a team would barricade this area which had been done, but all the warning signs have since disappeared.”

It is believed that the washaway was caused by water gushing down King Haakon Drive due to heavy rainfall. “Continuous heavy downpours could expand this washaway, and delays will allow it to grow resulting in further structural degradation, safety hazards and traffic disruptions. Unaddressed washaways grow as water continues to wash underlying soil thus causing voids to enlarge and eventually collapse. I am hoping that the department can get this road sorted soonest and that the municipality can look at proper drainage along King Haakon Drive,” said Rawlins.
DoT was contacted for comment, but none was received at the time of going to press.
