Service delivery concerns raised at budget roadshow in Park Rynie

Some of the concerns raised were about potholes, and verge and municipal buildings maintenance.

Residents from Wards 10 and 15 had the opportunity to raise concerns and engage with local leadership at the Umdoni and Ugu District Municipalities IDP and Draft Budget Roadshow on April 22.

This meeting was held at the Park Rynie beach campsite, and provided a platform to present the municipalities’ key service delivery priorities for the 2026/27 financial year, commencing on July 1.

The budget presentation by Umdoni highlighted significant allocations, pertaining to the urban wards which include among others: pothole patching (R2-m), urban road rehabilitation (R8-m) and streetlight maintenance (R2.5-m).

Residents raised service delivery issues pertaining to Umdoni, which mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli acknowledged, as well as the acting municipal manager DD Naidoo.

Some of the concerns raised were about potholes throughout these wards, verge maintenance, municipal buildings maintenance, Scottburgh’s beach pavilion, and other issues. The mayor and acting municipal manager thereafter acknowledged and committed to addressing these pressing matters.

A resident also questioned why Park Rynie has no community hall, and even though neighbouring town Scottburgh does, it remains unavailable for use after it was occupied by residents evicted from privately owned land in Park Rynie several years ago. Umdoni leadership did mention that the hall situation is being worked on, and an update on this will be provided in the near future.

Umdoni has once again called on residents to unite with the municipality in driving progress.
