Legal eagle makes Umkomaas Saps proud

Sergeant Ottillia Itumeleng Taoana will now assist with arbitration matters within legal services.

Sergeant Ottillia Itumeleng Taoana of Umkomaas Detective Services is making strides in the legal and investigative field after earning recognition for her dedication and academic achievements.

Serving under Group Commander Detective Sergeant Prishan Maharaj, Taoana holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and received a Dean’s Commendation for her studies.

The highly disciplined officer has also completed 17 years’ of loyal service within Saps.

Speaking about her journey, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to grow within the detective services division. She also thanked management for mentoring her as a seasoned detective under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel John Ngema, the detective commander.

As per Umkomaas Saps spokesperson, Captain Ranjith Rampersad, Taoana was celebrated for her commitment to serving victims of crime and her role as an ambassador against gender-based violence. He described her as an officer with integrity who respects the badge and consistently upholds the code of conduct.

Taoana recently attended an arbitration course at provincial level and will now assist Saps with arbitration matters within legal services.

Station commander Colonel Samkelisiwe Favourite Mncwango commended Taoana for her achievements and encouraged other members under her command to excel academically and professionally.
