PICS: Winter wonderland as snow falls in Kokstad area

Drive safely as conditions can change rapidly.

It has been a wet and chilly Women’s Day public holiday for the South Coast. Rain has pelted down and it’s best to stay indoors.

Inland, snow has fallen in the Kokstad and surrounding areas.

It hasn’t been excessively heavy at this stage, but weather alerts have circulated for motorists to take care on the road, especially in the Kokstad and Swartberg area, as well as in the KZN Midlands.

RTI confirmed snowfall and icy conditions in various areas, including Underberg and Nottingham Road.

Motorists are advised to check which roads are open or not, and to rather avoid being on the road at all.

Severe winter conditions are affecting the area, with snow and ice making driving extremely hazardous.

Do not attempt these routes unless official authorities confirm they have reopened.

Motorists travelling towards Kokstad, Swartberg, Underberg or Matatiele are urged to delay their journey where possible and share this warning with other road users.
