My Take…

That’s the ticket, chaps. Cut the whinging and do something about it yourselves.

WEEK after week we read stories and letters blaming municipalities for virtually everything that ails us.

The moans and groans might well be justified in many cases, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for the rest of us to sit back and follow suit.

If everyone took the time and effort to pamper their own patch we could virtually transform our seaside hamlets overnight.

It’s encouraging to see that several Scottburgh business people are doing exactly that and they have now challenged others to do the same.

The Mid South Coast Mail would like to help to inspire others to buy into this initiative and will offer a prize of a free full page advertisement (double if you are an existing Mail advertiser) which will be published at your convenience.

Other businesses and organisations are welcome to chip in with prizes as well. How about DIY stores offering discounts to shops that commit to the plan?  The competition is open to every business from Umkomaas to Pennington.

We will ask our CEO of Ugu South Coast Tourism, Justin Mackrory and his team to judge at the end of September, in time for the October school holidays.

Any other ideas are most welcome and we will try to keep the pot boiling on a weekly basis.

All you need to do is drop us an e-mail (adriv@dbn.caxton.co.za) headed: “Sprucing up for Spring” together with your business name and address so that we can keep a record of participants or announce additional prizes and incentives. We will require a before and after photograph!
