IT is a better bet to believe that the vast majority of Umdoni people want to live, play, prosper and co-exist in harmony.
In stead of clouding issues by focusing on silly comments made at a recent meeting in the Umdoni Town Hall, surely it makes better sense to concentrate on the proposed developments.
Some might argue that our coastal hamlets should be allowed to remain just that, but logic says that is not possible. There are too many people living in the Umdoni area who need to make a living.
Development is the only solution.
Fortunately for us, the North Coast – Ballito in particular – is bursting at the seams. There’s a giant new mall going up and a strong contingent of locals are arguing that they don’t need it. Their infrastructure – roads, water and sewerage – is already maxed out.
Umdoni faces similar problems, particularly with water. We need some forward thinking by the powers-that-be to invest in this infrastructure now and prepare for the growth that is bound to come at some stage in our future.
Mere patchwork will be short-sighted.
Based on MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu’s recent comments, there is definitely a ‘political will’ to promote development, so we all need to put our heads together to find a way.
Comments – even criticism – about the proposals by Royal HaskoningDHV are obviously most welcome, but they will only be of use if they are constructive.
Stirring up emotions with badly thought out questions that only inspire suspicion in peoples’ minds is disingenuous (to use a word made popular by politicians).
Unless one can come up with evidence and can substantiate that there is something criminally amiss behind the scenes, it would be more helpful all round for all of us to stick to the facts and not the fiction. READ MORE ‘MY TAKE’ HERE
